The original musical - Cats, was created by Andrew Lloyd Webber, known as the "King of Musicals" (composer of The Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Starlight Express, etc.). Cats features "Memory", one of the most popular songs in musical theater history, and is also famous for its grand stage sets, rich choreography, and unique costumes. With its beautiful music and lively and gorgeous dances, Cats is an unmissable classic musical masterpiece.
In 1977, Andrew Lloyd Webber created the musical "Cats" based on T.S. Eliot's poetry collection "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats". It premiered in 1981 at the New London Theatre in London, UK, and in 1982 at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway in New York. At the annual Jellicle Celebration, all the Jellicle Cats gather together. On this special night, Old Deuteronomy, their wisest and kindest elder, will choose the cat most worthy of rebirth to a new Jellicle life. So the cats come forward to share their life experiences with everyone, hoping to be chosen for a new life. Since its premiere in 1981, "Cats" has toured to over 54 countries, been translated into over 23 languages, and seen by over 77 million people. The original production team consisted of John Napier as set designer, Gillian Lynne as choreographer, and Trevor Nunn as director.
